I believe my strengths are in cutting, styling and customer service. I give the client what they want and I am also able to advise and recommend ways of improving what they have. My scissor work is very strong and my knowledge of hair gives me the ability to get the best out of any hair type. One of the most important thing for me to know about client in order to give them the best haircut is to get to know their morning routine to enable them to style their hair as good as I would in the shop!
There isn’t any haircut that I like or dislike more than another. I love the challenge of each and every cut and being precise with different techniques. I get my inspiration from the team I work with because of how talented they all are, and also from knowing the trade I do is very competitive and hard to master you have to be very current with skills and trends.
I would have really like to cut James Dean's hair simply because he is my male icon and I would have loved the chance to be able to sculpt and advise him with his hair. I think the guy who has the worst men’s hair at the moment is Crystal Palace footballer Marouane Chamakh simply because the cut does not suit him and is very dated.
The three most iconic haircuts of the 20th Century that stick in my mind are the slick back pompadour, the quiff with disconnected side part and skin fade with choppy blunt fringed crop. For hairstyles in 2016 I’m leaning towards more length allover and trying a more textured and natural looking hair and that's what I will be recommending to my clients. In terms of the face, the beard is here to stay! From cutting them daily I can say they are getting more and more popular.
My top three products I use at Joe and Co. are Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion – because I have honestly never used anything that works a well in curly hair before. Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray – because it’s the most versatile and benefitting prepping product going. Kevin Murphy Gritty Business – because it can create a ton of texture but is also versatile enough to slick hair back or give great holding power, all with a matte look.
My top tip for any client would be to always prep your hair before you blow dry so you have good foundation to build on!
