It's 2015. The time to usher in hopeful resolutions has arrived, prompting us to renew our gym passes and follow health & grooming regimes on par with Patrick Bateman. 2014 showed us the ever-growing appreciation for male grooming and men's fashion. The streets of London saw facial hair of all shapes and sizes accompanied by fades and slicked locks, where as the catwalk showcased the smart & clean-shaven, donning wind-swept styles in a variety of lengths. There's been the revival of bomber jackets and military style, British brands and heritage clothing going from strength to strength, and waves of sports-inspired luxury fashion. It's been a good year for all things menswear related, but as with any new year, it's time for a change, so to kick off 2015 here's The Joe and Co Spin on a New Year, a New You.
- Looking to smarten up? This year we're expecting to see some real contenders for the movie scene, and starting the year is release of comic-to-movie Kingsman, a British film which features an all-star British ensemble dressed head-to-toe in Mr. Porter's brand new own label called Kingsman. There's sharp British tailoring made from British-sourced fabrics, worn with equally sharp swept quiffs, perfecting the short back and sides, long on top look. There's a lesson to be learnt here - if you're looking up your tailoring game in the new year, make sure your grooming is up to scratch as well.
- Looking to tame the long locks? You may have grown your hair in 2014 and found the longer lengths suit you more than a short back and sides. Our own Joe recently gave actor Matthew Beard a tidy up for the Evening Standard Critic's Choice Awards, replacing his beard with a short stubble, and cutting his mid length hairstyle down to a classic tapered shape, maximising on the actor's slight wave. Shorter lengths doesn't necessarily mean less versatility, as demonstrated when Joe slicked the actor's hair back, providing a different style for the same cut on the actual awards night. Smart styling for an equally smart Burberry suit. Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY works especially with waves, providing added texture, hold and a slight glossy look when paired with Kevin Murphy UNDRESSED.
- Already feeling nostalgic from Movember? Joe says: "Decide on a style in advance and depending on your top lip growth rate and thickness, channel this look. It may take a few weeks but with your inspiration in mind and a professional barbers hand, you should be able to achieve your moustache goal."If you've decided to grow the full beard, it's important to keep it shaped up as you would the hair on your head. Beard grooming is just as important - don't let it get bushy.
A New Year doesn't just have to be a wardrobe thing, and improving your grooming regime will leave you in good strides across all day-to-day aspects. A new cut can leave just as good an impression as a new suit will - and what's even better? You can wear it every day. Drop by for some more haircut tips in Soho, London.
